The story behind the text...
The book is written by General Paulino Santos' two eldest children, Isabel and Rosa, and his grandson, Amado aka "Dinky". Tita Bills and Tita Rosky came up with the idea to publish this book several years ago. Along with Amado, they tirelessly reviewed the General's private diaries, letters, and articles in order to piece together the puzzle of his life and career. What started off as a project to pass on the family history to his great-grandchildren and future generations, resulted in a book of national importance, one that helps us gain a better understanding of the crucial role General Santos played in shaping Philippine history. Below are bios of the authors and the editor taken from the book.
Isabel A. Santos
As the second daughter of General Paulino Santos, Bills lived in a world of vibrant colors all her young life. Tribal lore and folkways in her father's various duty stations inspired the stunning costume designs of the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company. The visual feasts she created have drawn rave reviews across six continents. As a Bayanihan pillar, she has worn the hats of costume director, tour director, and artistic director. Before travelling the world with Bayanihan, she was a Fulbright scholar at Fordham University in the USA.
Rosa Santos Munda
Rosky was the General's eldest child. She was a distinguished scholar, lawyer, and school president in Davao and Manila during her lifetime. Her leadership training was at the East West Center in Hawaii and she was an alternate delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women held in Geneva, Switzerland. She and her lawyer husband, Amado Munda, had six children, with Dinky as their eldest.
Amado Santos Munda, Jr.
Dinky's blood runs blue, having been educated in Jesuit schools in the Philippines and the United States. After an executive stint at Intel in Silicon Valley in California, USA, he returned home to manage Pearl Farm Beach Resort in Davao. He now devotes his time to painting and growing gracefully old with his family.
